Get the Client
As of the time of this post, you can find the client by opening Nautilus, selecting “Other Locations,” and entering “smb://papercut.bju.edu/PCClient.” You will need to enter your school username & password (I used BJU.EDU as the domain).
Copy the “linux” folder to your computer. Then, inside the local folder, mark the pc-client-linux.sh file as executable & set the permissions to rwx-rw-rw.
Run pc-client-linux.sh and optionally, add the “pc-client-linux.sh” file to your list of startup items.
Note: The PaperCut Linux client requires Java 8 or higher (the OpenJDK Java 8 Runtime is compatible) as of this post.
Install a Printer
Open the Printers application and select “Add.” Choose “Windows printer via Samba” under the Networking option.
Enter the following “smb://bju-printers/PRINTER_NAME” where “PRINTER_NAME” is the name of the printer you want to add (the names are posted on each respective printer; some names can be found on the Campus Printer Map). Authentication should not be needed here.
Choose the printer make and model in the driver selection. If not present, PPD files can be found for most campus printers. Continue with the install as with any other printer.
Note: An incomplete list of printer names & models is available here.
Print Stuff
You should now be set to print to the installed printer. The Papercut client must be running in order to submit jobs.
